WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP
HYMN: Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks [Alleluia No. 1]
PRAYER
INTROIT: Give Thanks to God on High by Bruce R. Backer/arr. by William Braun
I give thanks to God on high for saints of other days, whose hope it was to live and die in love’s consuming blaze for Christ and His kingdom, His glory and His praise. Their vision long-fulfilled, our prayer is still the same: upon their work of faith to build, their word of truth proclaim for Christ and His kingdom and for His holy name. New tasks today are ours who serve a world in pain, new calls to challenge all our powers of heart and hand and brain. For Christ and His kingdom while life and breath remain. Give thanks to God on high for all the future sends, in praise of Christ to live and die who calls His servants friends, for Christ and His kingdom, whose glory never ends. Alleluia, amen. [Timothy Dudley-Smith]
PRAYER
SCRIPTURE LESSON: Acts 5:27-32
ANTHEM: Christus Paradox arr. by Alfred V. Fedak
You, Lord, are both Lamb and Shepherd. You, Lord, are both prince and slave. You, peacemaker and sword-bringer of the way you took and gave. You, the everlasting instant; you, whom we both scorn and crave. Clothed in light upon the mountain, stripped of might upon the cross, shining in eternal glory, beggared by a soldier’s toss, you, the everlasting instant; You, who are both gift and cost. You, who walk each day beside us, sit in power at God’s side. You, who preach a way that’s narrow, have a love that reaches wide. You, the everlasting instant; you, who are our pilgrim guide. Worthy is our earthly Jesus! Worthy is our cosmic Christ! Worthy your defeat and victory. Worthy still your peace and strife. You, the everlasting instant; you, who are our death and life. Alleluia! You, who are our death and our life. [Sylvia Dunstan]
