WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP

PRAYER OF PRAISE

HYMN:  Lord, the Light of Your Love Is Shining [Shine, Jesus, Shine]

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

INTROIT:  Light of the World (from “Godspell”) by Stephen Schwartz

You are the light of the world, but if that light’s beneath a bushel it’s lost something kind of crucial, you’ve got to stay bright to be the light of the world.  You are the salt of the earth, but if that salt has lost its flavor it ain’t got much in its favor, you can’t have that fault and be the salt of the earth.  So, let your light so shine before men, let your light so shine, so that they might know some kindness again.  We all need help to feel fine.  You are the City of God.  But if that city’s on a hill it’s kind of hard to hide it well, you got to stay pretty in the City of God.  You are the light of the world but the tallest candlestick ain’t much good without a wick.  You’ve got to live right to be the light of the world.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

SCRIPTURE LESSON: Matthew 5:13-16

HYMN:  Bring Forth the Kingdom by Marty Haugen

SERMON:  “Life Revolution from the Sermon on the Mount Reflection #3:  Becoming Salty Characters…But Bright Ones”

ANTHEM:  Light and Salt by M. Roger Holland II

We must be light in the world.  Jesus told us to be light in the world.  Never hide your light, shine it bright for all to see.  We must be light in the world. We must be salt of the earth.  Jesus told us to be salt of the earth.  For what good is salt that becomes a tasteless rock?  We must be salt of the earth.  We must be joy in the world.  Jesus wants us to be joy in the world.  Never hide your joy, let it out for all to see.  We must be joy in the world.  We must be hope in the world.  Jesus wants us to be hope in the world.  Never give up home, hold it tight and don’t let go.  We must be hope in the world.  We must be light.  We must be salt.  We must be joy.  We must be hope.  Never hide your light, shine it bright for all to see.  We must be light in the world. [Based on Matthew 5:13-14]
