PRELUDE: Make Me a Channel of Your Peace (Prayer of St. Francis) by Sebastion Temple; arr. by Lloyd Larson; Maria Schaffer, soprano; Myles Mineer, bass
Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord, and where there’s doubt, true faith in you. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy. Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love, with all my soul. Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we’re born to eternal life. [Sebastian Temple]

ANTHEM: We Wait the Peaceful Kingdom by Michael Burkhardt; Andria Cabrera, alto solo; Mark Waters, tenor solo
We wait the peaceful kingdom, when wolf and lamb shall lie in gentleness and friendship without a fear or sigh, when lion shall be grazing, when snake shall never strike; a little child shall lead us, both strong and weak alike. Where is the peaceful kingdom? When will this new day start? We long for peace and comfort to reign within each heart. Yet not in our lives only, nor simply in our home: we pray that all creation will one day find shalom. When wars of desolation and hate come to an end, when nation meets with nation and calls the other “friend,” still peace in all its fullness will only have begun: shalom for all creation begins with justice done. That little child shall lead us to walk the chosen way, to share the peaceful kingdom, to greet God’s newborn day. The child born in a stable is sent to break our chains, to bring through word and table the day when justice reigns. Amen! [Kathleen R. Moore]
