ANTHEM:  A Song of Community by Wareham – William Knapp/arr. by John Ferguson

I was glad, glad when they said unto me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.”  The Church of Christ, in every age beset by change but Spirit led, must claim and test its heritage and keep on rising from the dead.  Across the world, across the street, the victims of injustice cry for shelter and for bread to eat, and never live until they die.  Then let the servant Church arise, a caring Church that longs to be a partner in Christ’s sacrifice, and clothed in Christ’s humanity.  For he alone can cure the fever in our blood, and teach us how to share our bread and feed the starving multitude.  We have no mission but to serve in full obedience to our Lord!  To care for all, without reserve, and spread Christ’s liberating Word.  “Let us go into the house of the Lord.” [Fred Pratt Green]

BENEDICTION

BENEDICTION RESPONSE:  “For the Healing of the Nations” by St. Thomas – John Wade/arr. by Charles Thatcher; Andrew Rodman, trumpet

For the healing of the nations, Lord, we pray with one accord; for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords.  To a life of love and action, help us rise and pledge our word.  Lead us, Father, into freedom, from despair your world release; that redeemed from war and hatred, we may come and go in peace.  Show us how, through care and goodness, fear will die and hope increase.  All that kills abundant living, let it from the earth be banned; pride of status, race or schooling, dogmas that obscure your plan.  In our common quest for justice may we hallow life’s brief span.  You, Creator God, have written Your great name on human-kind; for our growing in your likeness brings the life of Christ to mind: that, by our response and service, earth its destiny may find.
