PRELUDE:  To God the Holy Spirit Let Us Pray by Mark Sedio

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP

PRAYER

HYMN:  Brethren, We Have Met to Worship [Holy Manna]

PRAYER

INTROIT:  Lord, Listen to Your Children by Ken Medema, arr. by Jack Schrader

Lord, listen to your children praying, Lord, send your Spirit in this place; Lord, listen to your children praying, send us love, send us power, send us grace. Something’s gonna happen like the world has never known, when the people of the Lord get down to pray; a door’s gonna swing open and the walls com a-tumbling down, when the people of the Lord get down to pray.  You’re gonna know it, when the Lord stretches out his hand, and the people of the Lord get down to pray; there’s gonna be a brand new song of victory in this land, when the people of the Lord get down to pray. [Ken Medema]

PRAYER

SCRIPTURE LESSON:  1 John 3:16-24

HYMN:  O Lord, Hear My Prayer [Hear My Prayer]

SERMON:  “When Does God Give Us What We Ask For?”

ANTHEM:  Worship by Geoffrey Shaw

O brother man!  Fold to thy heart thy brother; where pity dwells the peace of God is there; to worship rightly is to love each other, each smile a hymn, each kindly deed a prayer.  Follow with reverent steps the great example of Him whose holy work was “doing good”; so shall the wide earth seem our Father’s temple, each loving live a psalm of gratitude.  Then shall all shackles fall; the stormy clangor of wild war music over the earth shall cease; love shall tread out the baleful fire of anger, and in its ashes plant the tree of peace! [John Greenleaf Whittier]

PRAYER

HYMN:  What a Friend We Have in Jesus [Converse]

BENEDICTION

RESPONSE:  Pray for the People by Pepper Choplin; Carlos Carlos, tenor solo

Pray for the person on your left.  Pray for the person on your right.  They may seem strong, but we don’t know all the struggles and the burdens they hold.  We pray, Lord, we pray.  Give them power to face the day.  Lord, we lift them up.  They try to be strong, but only you know all of the struggles and the burdens they hold.  Pray for the person on your left.  Now we pray, “Lord, have mercy.”  Pray for the person on your right.  Now we pray, “Won’t you bless them, Lord.”  All the brothers and sisters, Lord, we lift them up, let them feel your presence, let them know your power, O Lord, they try to be strong.  Pray for the person on your left.  Pray for the person on your right.  Pray for them and as you do, people all around are praying for you.  Lord, we pray.  Give us power to face the day.  Amen.

The flowers are given today by Shelley Hellen in celebration of Christina Wilson’s birthday.
