Beloved in Christ,

In John 16:7 Jesus told His disciples that it would be to their advantage that He returned to heaven because then He would send the Holy Spirit to them.  The Spirit would empower them to bear witness to Him and to serve the world and its people in other ways as well.  The Spirit would also transform their character for the better.  Paul in Galatians 5:22-23a said that the Spirit would grow in them the following fruit:  “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Of course, the fruit that we eat can only grow in the right soil.  So too, the fruit of the Spirit can only grow in the right soul – that is, in a human heart that is receptive to God’s word and surrendered to God’s will.

This month, as we celebrate Pentecost and seek to live beyond ourselves in the life force of the Lord, let us pursue becoming the right soul before our Creator.

Warmly in Christ,

Pastors Adele & Rob Langworthy
