INTROIT:  Introit for Pentecost Festal Song – William H. Walter/arr. by David W. Music

Alleluia.  A rushing, mighty wind roars through a crowded room, and tongues of fire upon their heads disperse the people’s gloom.  God’s Spirit blows the wind and lights the blood-red flame; a Pentecost of tongues explodes in praise of Jesus’ name.  Three thousand souls that day in mind and heart were stirred; and these were added to the church as they believed the Word.  Lord, make our breath a wind and let our tongues be fire, and as at that first Pentecost your people’s lives inspire.  Amen!

ANTHEM:  On the Day of Pentecost by Douglas Nolan

On the day of Pentecost the faithful were gathered to pray when the Spirit of God appeared above them in tongues of flame.  The power of the Lord came down in glory from on high.  With shouts of joy the people spoke and raised a jubilant cry.  On the day of Pentecost when early was the hour the breath of God swept through the room in mystery and power.  The Spirit of the Lord was poured upon that holy place.  They all began to testify of God’s amazing grace.  Alleluia!  Now on this day of Pentecost we worship in one accord.  Just as they did so long ago, we praise the risen Lord.  May God reveal His awesome love in power and in might, and kindle in our hearts a flame of everlasting Light!
