WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP

INTROIT:  There’s A Wideness in God’s Mercy by Mary McDonald

There is welcome for the sinner and more graces for the good; there is mercy with the Savior; there is healing in his blood.  But we make his love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify his strictness with a zeal he will not own.  There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea; there’s a kindness in his justice, which is more than liberty.  If our love were but more simple, we could take him at his word; and our lives would be more loving in the likeness of our Lord. [Frederick W. Faber]

ANTHEM:  Judge Eternal by Malcolm Archer

Judge eternal, throned in splendor, Lord of lords and King of kings, with thy living fire of judgement purge this realm of bitter things: solace all its wide dominion with the healing of thy wings.  Still the weary folk are pining for the hour that brings release: and the city’s crowded clangor cries aloud for sin to cease; and the homesteads and the woodlands plead in silence for their peace.  Crown, O God, thine own endeavor, cleave our darkness with thy sword:  feed the faint and hungry heathen with the richness of thy word:  cleanse the body of this empire through the glory of the Lord.  Amen. [Henry Scott Holland]
