Deacons are members of the church who are ordained by the congregation to carry out works of compassion and service. They befriend the lonely and marginalized, visit the homebound and hospitalized, give care to the needy, loan out medical equipment free of charge, provide free transportation to medical appointments, and support other local charities.
They support the worship of the church by taking care of the pews, overseeing the flowers beautifying the worship spaces, setting up and cleaning up for Communion, and the like.
Because in our tradition, deacons are ordained officers of the church, this is the one area of service that is only open to members of the church.
