Beloved of God,
If God is as great as we say we think He is, wouldn’t believing in Him, trusting Him and engaging with Him make for a great life?
It is after all not as if God were only great in the past – when He sent His Son to die for us and to relieve us of any debt to pay – or as if God will only be great in the future – when He will welcome those who fear Him into His eternal paradise. God is also great in the present – especially as He gives those with an open heart a life of meaning and purpose, of joy and peace, of steadfast love and endless consolation, of an exhalating mission and the power to fulfill it.
God is great, not just as a beautiful abstract idea or as a heroic figure of history, but as living Person with whom we can have a relationship, so that we experience nothing, not even loneliness, alone. He is with us always; and He is always a helpful, supportive Presence with whom we can know life at its best, the perfect Friend who is always there for us and always has for us what we need.
We have good news to share!
It is not that we are exceptional.
It is that we know Someone exceptional, Someone who can make anyone’s life better still.
And if loving our neighbor as ourselves is essential to fulfilling our purpose in life, wouldn’t doing what we can to help others discover the greatest gift of all, a friendship with God, be essential to fulfilling our purpose?
Let us then devote 2026, as individuals and as a community together, to knowing God as never before and assisting others to come to know Him as never before.
