Covenant celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost) on May 28th

The Christian life is meant to be a supernatural life, a life empowered by something more than human energy and strength.

On the first Pentecost, just under two months after Jesus rose from the dead, the Holy Spirit entered the souls of the believers to enable them to fulfill a mission beyond their natural capabilities. Each Pentecost (a “moving” holy day coming seven weeks after the moving holy day of Easter, and thus occurring this year May 28),we celebrate that historical reality of two thousand years ago and renew our commitment to experience the reality again in our day.

At the first Pentecost, the Holy Spirit appeared with “divided tongues, as of fire”.  Thus, the Sanctuary and the Chapel will be decorated with red balloons and red flowers, and many worshippers will be dressed in red – all to make us think of the warm bright fire of the Spirit. on this special day.

Out of gratitude that God did not abandon us to our own devises but shares His power with us to accomplish His good will, many of us will want to make a special thank offering.

Monies designated for the “Pentecost offering” will provide financing to meet the needs of children, youth and youth adults.  Forty percent of what is collected on Pentecost will go to support Covenant’s ministry to such people, and the rest will go to support such ministries carried out by the larger church of which we are a part.
